The thief in The Jew of Malta has a speaking name composed of the Italian "pigliare" (to take, to pull) and "borsa" (bag). First he breaks into Barabas' house, but only captures silver, which the courtesan Bellamira refuses. With Ithimore’s help, they both blackmail Barabas, who ultimately poisons all three.
