Richard Barnfield

Richard Barnfield (* 1574, † 1620) studied at Oxford, but left the university before taking his MA. In the autumn of 1594 he published his first work, The Affectionate Shepherd, with a dedication to Penelope Rich. It was a success and Barnfield continued to write poetry, including the first honourable mention of William Shakespeare to date in 1598.
